Student Minister Marcus Mims
Marcus Mims is 39 years old and has fourteen years of experience in youth ministry. He is a graduate of Clemson University and Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Marcus sees student ministry as his life calling. He spent most of his early years growing up in Georgetown, South Carolina and has lived with his family in Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. Marcus grew up in a Christian home where his mother and father were educators in public and private schools. He has one brother, Matt, who is three years older. Marcus made the decision to invite Jesus Christ to be his Savior when he was 12 years old and only later during his first year in college experienced Him as Lord of his life. He was baptized and grew as a follower of Christ during his middle school years, yet during his high school years fell away from church. When he faced some difficult living conditions and challenges during his first year in college, Marcus was born again and began to sense a strong calling to ministry. Majoring in art, Marcus found the Lord actively pursuing him until he gave in and became active on his college campus taking a leadership role with the Fellowship of Christians and Athletes and in his local church, serving in many ways to glorify God. After graduating college with a BFA in Art, Marcus began teaching art and math in an alternative school. His calling soon led him to seminary and service in various roles of ministry in the local church. While teaching, Marcus met his wife, Teresa, in church and they married in 1993. In 2004, Cody, Joshua and Kendall joined their family as triplets. Joshua, their first born, died when he was two months old. Family is a very big part of Marcus’ life. He loves teenagers, empathizing with many of their struggles, and believes they are a vital part of the body of Christ. Marcus passionately believes that children and youth are not the church of tomorrow, but of today, God calls all - “To do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.”
