History of World Hunger Day
at First Baptist Church of Huntersville
In 1982, a small men's prayer breakfast group from First Baptist Church felt God's call to feed the hungry around the world.  That first year, a yard sale on the church grounds raised more than $1,000 for the Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund.  Since then, World Hunger Day at FBCH has grown to include a 5K Fun Run/Walk, huge bazaar, barbecue, craft & bake sale, auction, and golf tournament.

Over the years, more than $560,000 has been raised to benefit the local Loaves & Fishes Pantry and the World Hunger Fund.  Each year, 85% of the money is given to the World Hunger Fund and 15% to the local food pantry.

Beginning in July, friends and members of FBCH will begin preparation for World Hunger Day.  Two tractor trailers will be filled with donations of clothes, tools, books, furniture, toys, bikes, and appliances to be sold in the bazaar.  Children will collect money in rice bowls, teenagers and adults will raise pledges for the Fun Run/Walk, and the local media will begin publicizing the event.

The day before WH Day, the campus will come alive with activity as people prepare for the gigantic bazaar.  The kitchen will bustle with cooks preparing for the barbecue.  The gymnasium of the Family Life Center will be turned into an auction house.

Hundreds of people working for Christ will make WH Day possible.  Literally thousands of lives will be touched by the blessings of this ministry.

You can get involved by volunteering your time and talents, giving gifts of money and goods, and giving your prayer support.  Call the church office at 704-875-6581 to learn how you too can get involved.
