DID YOU KNOW
. . . how Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet began?
By Aileen Ramirez
Lydia's Loft Prom Closet was founded April of 2010 with only six dresses and a call from God. Tammy Morris and I had a vision on what we thought the closet should be and the girls we would serve. We were just so excited to start this new adventure with God. But with six dresses we really couldn't serve many girls so we started asking our friends and church members for dress donations. To our surprise within weeks we had over 200 dresses!! However, even after we communicated with local schools— nobody came! We thought well, maybe next year . . . but God was not even close to being done for the year. He had a big plan and needed for us to be patient and wait on Him. As the weeks passed, I was contacted by a organization called The Sandbox who hosts a prom for patients at the Levine Children's Hospital. Then we knew this was God’s plan all along for us to serve all of these families who are going through life threatening illnesses. We packed up every single dress we had! Over 200 dresses left our building and we thought we were finished and had done everything God set us up to do.... Well we were wrong! Within weeks, we had donations coming in—God send us 200 more dresses!!!!!!!! Yes, 200 more and over the past five years we have received more than 1,000 dresses. We partner with local high schools, homeschool groups, special needs groups, and continue to partner with The Sandbox. Through the Prom Closet, God has touched the lives of many young girls and their families, many of whom we had the privilege of praying with when they came for a dress. God continues to BLESS us and we have learned that "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways." (Isaiah 55:8) His plans for us are higher than we can ever imagine. All He wants is for us to join Him at His work not for us to create a job and expect God to join in.
Thank you to all who have volunteered, donated dresses and prayed for this ministry!
